Why Personal Change Can Feel So Hard
Wanting something to change can be clear, while knowing where to begin can be much harder. I think that gap deserves more patience than we usually give it. A familiar way of doing things may still feel easier, even when we are ready for something different.
My understanding of personal growthstarts with paying attention to what is actually happening. There may be a habit, a worry, a relationship, or an expectation that needs a closer look. Sometimes several of those things are connected, and a quick answer leaves too much out.
I am interested in conversations that make room for that complexity without making the person feel like a problem. There is value in being able to say what feels difficult, what has already been tried, and what kind of change would matter in everyday life.
I also think it helps to leave room for uncertainty. We may know that the current situation is uncomfortable before we know what we want next. That can be an honest place to begin a conversation.
As I reflect on change, I keep coming back to patience and choice. I want personal growth to include both, with enough space for a person to understand what a next step could mean.
A Few Questions I Am Often Asked
Why does personal change feel so hard?
Because wanting something to change and knowing where to begin are different things. A familiar way of doing things can feel easier, even when we are ready for something different. That gap deserves patience, not criticism.
Is coaching the same as therapy?
No. Therapy is mental health treatment with a licensed clinician, and coaching is not a replacement for it. Coaching is a forward-looking conversation about your life, your goals, and your next steps. The International Coaching Federationdescribes the difference well.
Are coaching sessions in person or online?
Personal coaching sessions are virtual, so you can join from anywhere. Each session is one hour. If you are in Phoenix, Arizona and would rather meet in person for sound or energy work, those private sessionshappen at the Empower House Community Gathering Space in North Phoenix.
