What Happens After a Breakthrough
We love the moment of insight. The sudden clarity, the decision made, the weight lifting. What we talk about less is the morning after, when the breakthrough meets regular life.
Insight is the spark, and Tuesday is the test. The new understanding has to survive your inbox, your habits, and the people who knew the old you. That is no reason to doubt the breakthrough. It is a reason to plan for what comes next.
I think integration is the underrated half of change. Small structures help. A reminder where you will see it. One person who knows what you are working on. A tiny daily action that keeps the insight warm.
This is part of why coaching continues after the big conversation. Follow-up sessions give the breakthrough somewhere to land and grow. The insight opens the door, and practice walks you through it. My coaching sessions are built around both halves.
As I reflect on it, a breakthrough is a beginning wearing the costume of an ending. What matters most is what you do next, and next is allowed to be small.
Why do insights fade so fast?
Because your environment and habits keep voting for the old pattern. Insight changes what you know, and structure changes what you do. Lasting change needs both.
How does coaching support lasting change?
Through accountability, follow-up, and honest reflection on what is actually happening after the session ends. The International Coaching Federation's research portal shares studies on why that structure works.
Where do you work with clients?
Coaching sessions are virtual and one hour long, so we can meet from anywhere. I am based in Phoenix, Arizona.
