Making Room for Yourself Before the Holiday Rush
There is a short stretch of the year, right about now, when the calendar starts to fill faster than we notice. Costumes, school events, family plans, travel, and work deadlines all begin to arrive at once, and many of us tell ourselves we will rest after the holidays.
I have been thinking about what it would look like to make a little room before the rush instead of after it. It can be a small decision made on purpose.
For some people, that might be fifteen minutes with no phone. For others, it might be a short walk, a cup of tea without another task beside it, or one evening on the calendar that stays empty. The question is what would feel like a little room in your life, rather than one more thing to complete.
You do not have to wait until everything is finished to consider what you need. If a pause feels uncomfortable or impractical, you can change its shape, shorten it, or choose something else. There is room for your preferences in this, too.
As I reflect on the season ahead, I want my gatherings and sessions to be one of the places where you can set things down for a while. Everything upcoming is on my events page, and my private sessions are there when you want one-on-one time.
What is a small way to make room for rest during a busy season?
You could choose one small pause, such as ten minutes without a phone, a short walk, or an evening kept free, and notice whether it fits your life. It is an invitation to experiment, rather than another routine you have to get right.
How can sound be part of a pause?
Sound can be one way to give attention a place to rest, although experiences differ. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health explains that some meditation practices focus on a sound, breathing, or another sensation. That explanation does not establish a medical benefit from singing bowls, and sound meditation does not replace health care. You can stop or adjust a practice that feels uncomfortable.
Do I need experience to join a sound meditation?
No experience is needed. You are welcome to sit or lie down, and you can simply listen. Dates and details are on my events page.
